IRISH WHISKEY BREAD PUDDING

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups of stale bread, cubed (such as brioche or French bread)
  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup of Irish whiskey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • Butter, for greasing the baking dish
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

 

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.

Prepare the Bread:
Cube the stale bread into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in the greased baking dish.

Make the Custard Mixture:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, eggs, granulated sugar, Irish whiskey, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Pour the Custard Over the Bread:
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cubed bread in the baking dish, making sure all the bread pieces are soaked in the mixture. Gently press down on the bread to help it absorb the custard.

Bake the Bread Pudding:
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 45-50 minutes, or until the bread pudding is set and golden brown on top. The custard should be firm to the touch, and a knife inserted into the center should come out clean.

Cool and Serve:
Once baked, remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Serve warm and drizzle with some caramel or butterscotch sauce if desired, top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
