Ingredients

  • 4 large baking apples
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • ¼ cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Core the apples, leaving the bottoms intact to create a cavity for the filling.
  3. Place the apples in a baking dish.
  4. In a bowl, combine the oats, honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, and walnuts if using.
  5. Spoon the oat mixture evenly into the centers of the apples.
  6. Pour the water into the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and continue baking for 15–20 minutes until the apples are tender and the topping is golden.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Cooking Tips

  • Bramley apples provide a traditional Irish flavor, though other baking apples work well.
  • Adjust the honey to suit your preferred sweetness level.
  • Add raisins or dried cranberries for extra texture and flavor.
  • Do not overbake, as the apples should remain intact when served.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Baked Apple with Honey & Oats warm with freshly whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or warm custard. A drizzle of extra honey and a light dusting of cinnamon make an attractive finishing touch.
