POTATO AND TURNIP GRATIN

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 medium turnips, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup grated cheese (Gruyère or cheddar works well)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, for greasing the dish
  • Fresh thyme (optional, for garnish)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the cream and milk over medium heat, adding garlic. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Layer the potatoes and turnips in the dish, alternating between the two.
  4. Pour the cream mixture over the layers, ensuring all slices are covered.
  5. Sprinkle cheese evenly on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes until the top is golden and the vegetables are tender.
  7. Garnish with thyme if desired, and serve hot.
