SHEPHERDS PIE

Description: A savory pie made with ground meat (usually beef or lamb) and vegetables, topped with mashed potatoes and baked until golden brown.

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 40 minutes

Serving size: 4-6 servings

 

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (such as peas, carrots, and corn)
  • 1 cup beef or chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or lamb over medium heat, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the mixed vegetables, broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Stir well and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes until the vegetables are tender and the liquid has reduced slightly.
  6. Transfer the meat mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Spoon the mashed potatoes on top of the meat mixture and spread evenly.
  8. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the potatoes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the pie is heated through.
