IRISH WHISKEY TOFFEE APPLES

Description: Classic toffee apples with an Irish twist—these caramel-coated apples are infused with a hint of Irish whiskey for a grown-up treat that’s perfect for Halloween or autumn gatherings.

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 20 minutes (plus 20 minutes for cooling)

Serving Size: Makes 6 toffee apples

Ingredients:

  • 6 small apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 6 wooden sticks or skewers
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp Irish whiskey
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Optional toppings: crushed nuts, sprinkles, or sea salt flakes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a wooden stick or skewer firmly into the top of each apple and set them aside.
  2. Make the Toffee: In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir gently until the mixture melts and begins to simmer.
  3. Cook the Toffee: Allow the mixture to simmer, without stirring, for about 10-15 minutes, until it reaches 240°F (115°C) on a candy thermometer (soft-ball stage).
  4. Add the Whiskey: Remove from heat and carefully stir in the Irish whiskey and salt. Let the toffee cool slightly, about 2-3 minutes, to thicken.
  5. Coat the Apples: Dip each apple into the toffee mixture, turning to coat evenly. Let any excess drip off, then set the apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle with toppings before the toffee sets.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the toffee to cool and harden, about 20 minutes, before serving.
