Description: A hearty, wholemeal bread made with a mix of whole wheat flour and white flour, often served with butter or jam.

- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup medium oatmeal
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, oatmeal, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
- Stir in the melted butter and buttermilk until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake the Irish Brown Bread for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- I usually like to serve my Irish Brown Bread with butter, cheese, or jam. But smoked salmon is also a tasty treat!!
