IRISH BLACK PUDDING SAUSAGE ROLLS

Description: These Irish black pudding sausage rolls are a delightful twist on a classic snack. Made with flaky puff pastry and savory Irish black pudding, they’re perfect for parties, picnics, or a tasty snack any time of day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry, thawed if frozen
  • 250g (about 9 oz) Irish black pudding, casing removed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 30cm x 20cm (12 inches x 8 inches).
  3. Cut the black pudding into 12 equal-sized pieces, each about the length of the shorter side of the puff pastry rectangle.
  4. Place a piece of black pudding along one edge of the puff pastry rectangle, leaving a border of about 1cm (0.4 inches) along the edge.
  5. Roll up the pastry tightly, enclosing the black pudding, and seal the edge by pressing down lightly.
  6. Cut the rolled pastry into 12 equal-sized pieces and place them seam-side down on the prepared baking tray.
  7. Brush the tops of the sausage rolls with the beaten egg, then sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp, and the black pudding is cooked through.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
  10. Enjoy these delicious Irish black pudding sausage rolls warm or at room temperature as a tasty snack or appetizer!
