Description: An Irish dessert made with sweet apples baked inside a pastry crust.
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 50 minutes
Serving size: 6-8 servings
- 1 (9-inch/23 cm) pre-made pie crust
- 4 cups thinly sliced apples (about 4 medium apples)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp coarse sugar (optional)
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
- Roll out the pie crust on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch (3 mm) thickness.
- Transfer the pie crust to the prepared baking sheet.
- Spoon the apple mixture into the center of the pie crust, leaving a 2-inch (5 cm) border around the edges.
- Fold the edges of the pie crust up and over the apples, pinching the edges together to form a rim.
- Dot the top of the apples with butter.
- In a small bowl, mix together the flour and heavy cream. Brush the mixture over the top of the crust.
- Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the top of the crust, if using.
- Bake the Irish Apple Tart for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the tart cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
