IRISH APPLE TART

Description: An Irish dessert made with sweet apples baked inside a pastry crust.

Preparation time: 20 minutes

Cooking time: 50 minutes

Serving size: 6-8 servings

  • 1 (9-inch/23 cm) pre-made pie crust
  • 4 cups thinly sliced apples (about 4 medium apples)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp coarse sugar (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Roll out the pie crust on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch (3 mm) thickness.
  4. Transfer the pie crust to the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Spoon the apple mixture into the center of the pie crust, leaving a 2-inch (5 cm) border around the edges.
  6. Fold the edges of the pie crust up and over the apples, pinching the edges together to form a rim.
  7. Dot the top of the apples with butter.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the flour and heavy cream. Brush the mixture over the top of the crust.
  9. Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the top of the crust, if using.
  10. Bake the Irish Apple Tart for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  11. Let the tart cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
