BUTTERMILK CHICKEN TENDERS

Description: Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these buttermilk chicken tenders are a crowd-pleasing favorite. The buttermilk marinade tenderizes the chicken while adding a subtle tang, and the seasoned coating ensures a perfectly golden crunch.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes (plus 2-4 hours for marinating)

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Serving Size: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) chicken tenders or boneless chicken breast, sliced into strips
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional for extra crunch)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:
    • In a bowl, combine buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
    • Add the chicken strips, ensuring they are fully submerged in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 2-4 hours (or overnight for extra tenderness).

  2. Prepare the Coating:
    • In a shallow dish, mix flour, breadcrumbs (if using), baking powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

  3. Coat the Chicken:
    • Remove chicken strips from the marinade, allowing excess buttermilk to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.

  4. Fry the Tenders:
    • Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. The oil should reach 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the chicken tenders in batches for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

  5. Drain and Serve:
    • Transfer the cooked chicken tenders to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
