GUINNESS BREAD

Description: This recipe is for a hearty and flavorful Guinness bread that combines all-purpose and whole wheat flours, rolled oats, brown sugar, and molasses with the famous Irish stout beer to create a dense and delicious bread that’s perfect for toasting and serving with butter or jam.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups Guinness or other stout beer
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Guinness, molasses, and beaten egg.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch loaf pan.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.
  7. Remove the pan from the oven and let the bread cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
